News: Why Biafrans Support Donald Trump

Nigeria's secessionist group, Indigenous People of Biafra has declared 
support for US President-elect, Donald Trump. The group on Wednesday 
announced its intention to hold a rally in Nigeria in support of Trump 
on his inauguration day as US President.<br />
<br />
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which wants the independence of 
Biafra in the eastern region of Nigeria, said in a statement that it was
 inviting people to a pro-Trump rally in the southern oil hub of Port 
Harcourt.<br />
<br />
The
 group says it welcomes "civil and pragmatic democracy anywhere we find 
it". The Biafra region unsuccessfully fought for independence in a 
brutal three-year civil war that ended in 1970.<br />
<br />
IPOB has renamed its push for secession "Biafrexit", after the UK's 
Brexit vote to leave the European Union. IPOB is part of a wider 
secessionist movement that advocates an independent state of Biafra, a 
region in southeast Nigeria that unsuccessfully fought for independence 
in a brutal three-year civil war that ended in 1970.<br />
<br />
Early on in the US presidential race, IPOB threw its support behind 
Trump in the belief he would recognise their independence movement.<br />
<br />
Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the brother of the detained IPOB leader Nnamdi 
Kanu, who has been held by the Nigerian government since October 2015 on
 treason charges, said of Trump: “He supports the right to 
self-determination.”<br />

Separatist sentiment has grown in the months since Kanu’s arrest and 
sparked bloody clashes with security forces that have since been 
condemned by human rights groups.

going to be typically and traditionally American, and Kanye is a great

 he explained thus: “We are processing, but can’t pay them now.”<br />

“We need money in the system and that is why the increase in interest is on the cards so some can decide to leave their funds.<br />
<br />
“That said, participants that have between N50,000 and N300,000 or so 
are being paid on a daily basis, you can do your findings.”<br />
<br />

Federal High Court in Abuja has barred reporters from covering the trial
 of the self-acclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB),
 Nnamdi Kanu.<br />
<br />
There is huge presence of security personnel at the trial of the 
pro-Biafra leader taking place at the Federal High Court, with the 
officials denying journalists and visitors entry.<br />
<br />
Only close family members are allowed into the court by security operatives.<br />
<br />
No
 reason was given for this decision by the court but recently it was 
reported that the trial of the self-acclaimed IPOB leader would be done 
behind the camera, a move that Mr Kanu had protested.<br />
<br />
Mr Kanu is standing trial on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, intimidation and belonging to an unlawful society.<br />
<br />
He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.<br />

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state has kicked against the proposed 
diversion of local and international flights from Abuja to Kaduna.<br />

In
 a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, at the 
weekend, Fayose outlined some things that were wrong with the move. <br />
<br />
He said, “They act before they think and they take decisions before 
consulting critical stakeholders. That way, they always end up putting 
the cart before the horse. That is how they have messed up the economy 
and now have brought unprecedented grief, misery, poverty and suffering 
on Nigerians.''<br />
<br />
“This same Kaduna is where Shiites waylaid a whole Chief of Army Staff; 
the crisis created is yet to abate as the Shiites continue to defy the 
authorities to mount public protests. This is the same Kaduna where over
 a thousand citizens have been slaughtered like rams and the FG has not 
brought a single of the murderers to book. The situation in southern 
Kaduna and in other parts remains as tense as ever.<br />
<br />
“This is the same Kaduna-Abuja death-trap of a road where a sitting 
Minister of the Federal Republic, his wife and son lost their lives in a
 road mishap. This is the same Kaduna-Abuja road where a Minister and 
her husband were kidnapped in broad daylight.<br />
<br />
“It is also on this same road that an Army officer was butchered; where 
herdsmen parade their herds in broad daylight causing avoidable 
accidents and other inconveniences to travellers. This is the same road 
where Boko Haram and other criminally-minded hoodlums operate at will”, 
he said.<br />
<br />
“Why are they always leaping before they look”, he asked, saying that 
the decision to close down the Abuja airport will further worsen the 
country’s economic recession.

US President-elect Donald Trump is keen on breaking as many traditions 
as possible. He has benched Charlie Brotman, the famous voice of 
presidential inaugurations.<br />

 reports that the 89-year-old Brotman who has announced every 
inauguration parade since Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1957 expressed 
disappointment on Trump's move. "I looked at at my email, then I got the
 shock of my life," Brotman said. <br />
<br />
"I felt like Muhammad Ali had hit me in the stomach."<br />
<br />
To DAILY NEWS, Brotman said, “I was crushed.” <br />
<br />
“I’m the only guy in the world who has ever done the announcing of a 
presidential inaugural parade for the past 60 years. And there’s no way,
 I thought, that I would not be the announcer.”<br />
<br />
Steve Ray, a 56-year-old broadcaster who volunteered with the Trump 
campaign — will be the new man behind the microphone at the parade.
